Cabinet Pics
So here's some of the pictures I took at Gameworks of the Cabinet I'd like to build a replica of. I'll have notes for each picture. I also have a short video walking around the cabinet. It's big so it will take a while to download, and I don't know if you can play it, but you can try to
view it here.
The side of the cabinet, showing part of the back. That's Eric playing the game right now. Instead of having the Monkey Ball side art, mine will just be painted black for now.
Here you can see an angled view of the front, which shows off the control panel (the thing w/ the banana on it) and coin box (below it, w/ the glowing red number on front). You can also see the monitor, and the plexi on over the top (you can see sort of a reflection of the lights off the plexi). All of the yellow trim you see on the cabinet is the T-molding.
Another picture of the front bottom part of the cabinet. Here you can see the actual metal coin return mech that takes the quarters, which I baught already. The coin box part is "indented" a few inches from the side w/ the art on it, which you can see in this image.
Another side shot, mostly to give more of a straight side shot, and to show how tall the cabinet is when standing next to it, and the angles of the monitor, speakers, etc.
This one is mainly to show you the "bezel". It's the plastic black thing around the monitor. As you can see it's a couple inches deep so the monitor is "sunk in" a few inches below the bezel, and the plexi goes over that.
The top part of the front of the cabinet. The glowing thing that says "Monkey Ball" is the marquee. That's plexi glass w/ translucent art behind it, backlit by a florescent light. This is held in w/ a marquee retainer which I'll be buying. Below the marquee are the speakers. The speaker grills are 4 inches around I believe, I'll be buying these as well. Also notice how the side edges stick out a half inch or so beyond where the marquee, speakers, and monitor are. This is true all around the cabinet sides. They're also rounded insead of sharp edges. I'd like this same effect on my cabinet.
The top of the control panel (CP). I haven't figured out how they're keeping the control panel down, as I couldn't find a mechanism for it to come open, but there is a piano hinge underneath the front part. There's a piece of metal or plastic between the control panel and the monitor (I think to hold the plexi in place? not sure). We'll have to figure that out I guess.
Another picture of the Control panel from the side, to give you another angle on it.
A nice side shot of the control panel box and coin box below. You can see that the control panel is a bit bigger than the coin box in all directions. Note as well the curving of the pieces here. There is a slight curve to the side w/ the art on it and the coin box side. The control panel top is ever so slightly angled down as well, and the control panel box side is angled inward from the top.
Also, notice those two black circles to the lower left of the "M" and "B" on the side? Those are the bolts that hold whatever they're using to mount the monitor with. There are two more bolts up the cabinet, near another monkey's face on the side art in another picture above, but they're harder to spot.
Great picture Eric took of the underside of the front part of the cabinet. Here you can see the control panel actuall overhangs its box below, and you can just barely make out the piano hinge on the front part if you look closely. The control panel box is exactly 3/4" thinner on both sides since it's butt up inside next to the side w/ the monkey art on it. Also notice how the control panel box overhangs the coin box part below it.
This is the top back part. Notice the hole on the upper flat back part. There's one on the other side of the cabinet as well. And there are also two more on the very bottom which you can't see in this picture. I beleive they are used to put your hand in to help move the cabinet around and double as air vents. Also, if you look at the third monkey face down from the top on the side art, right where her eye's are is where the other two bolts are that help hold the mounting they're using for the monitor in place. Though, again, I'm unsure of how they're mounting the monitor inside there.
This is the lower part of the cabinet back. Here you can see the detachable door with the lock on it. On the door are slits that allow air to get in as well. There are two more square holes on the bottom like in the picture above, you just can't see them in this picture.
That's basically it! If you have any questions about what you see, or would like me to go and check out the cabinet again to get further info on it, just ask. I can run over and look and it all anytime.
