Cabinet Plans

I did a bunch of measurements on the cabinet while at Gameworks, and below are what I found. I realized that my control panel prototype I built is 31" wide, and the cabinet control panel top here was only 27 1/2". I've added 2" to the overall width of the cabinet, and I should be able to get the control panel I have to fit in a 29 1/2" space. I still need to research this a little bit however. There are no plans yet for the control panel cutouts, I'd like to mock that up in real scale to make sure everything fits on the control panel first, before moving forward with that.

I'm also including PDF's of each image on this page. I think Mom installed a PDF viewer a while ago on the computer. If you can view these PDF files, then they should make nicer printouts than just printing this page if you want them. They're exactly the same thing as the images below though.

Also note these pictures are not to scale!! I roughed out the basic shapes, but the measurements are right for the most part. There are obviously areas that do not add up or may be off by a half inch or so. In that instance we'll need to make our best guess, but this is what I measured while there.

Cabinet Side (a)

The first set of measurements for the cabinet sides. There are basically three pieces of wood here, the big cabinet side, the side of the coin box, and the side of the Control Panel (CP). You can see all these in reality in the pictures link I sent as well. Remember the cabinet side sticks out about a half inch all the way around the cabinet (see the pictures where I describe that). Also I'd like the edges of the angled bits on the sides to be rounded off instead of sharp edges (again, see the pictures I took to see what I mean).

The rest of the measurements for the cabinet sides (each side has the same measurements, the "a" and "b" denotation for the images I just used since I'm using two images to show all the measurements, I couldn't fit them all into one image). Notice how the control panel side angles inwards from 10" to 9", and so does the coin box sides. For the coin box and side panel parts in the front it's more due to the curving I describe in the pictures, which you can see there. I'm not sure exactly how the curving works, whether it starts and curves out as you move down, or whether it starts and curves in and then back to the starting point as you move down (hope that makes sense). I believe it's the former. Again look at the pictures as a reference. It would be really cool to do something like this on my cabinet if we could.

Also note that the control panel box and coin box sides are probably wider than I put here since I only measured from the left part of the big side piece. Obviously the control panel box would have to be wider to be able to attach to the inside of the big side piece, so you'll need to take that into consideration when planning this. I also wanted to get the measurements of the top part of the side piece, between the angled bits, but I didn't, I only got the 10 1/2" measurement. I hope that's enough for us to draw off of. We may have to try and guess some sizes based on the pictures in this area.

Cabinet Front

This basically shows all the measurements for each "piece" on the front of the cabinet. Everything is basically 27" wide, save for the control panel top which is 29 1/2" and overhangs the control panel box (not shown). This width does not include the width of the side pieces above, which are 3/4" thick. The "control panel" labeled here is showing the top of the control panel, not the front piece of the control panel box. I forgot to add the front of the control panel box here, but it's 25 1/2"w x 7"h, which is 1 1/2" less than the normal width because its sides (3/4" thick each) are inside the big outter cabinet sides, also 3/4" each. I hope that makes sense. I think it will if you look at the pictures I took.

The marquee up top is not a piece of wood, it's plexi, and so is the monitor area. The speaker area is wood however, and there will be 4" speaker grills on it, though I believe the cutout would be something like 3" in diameter and then 4 drill holes for the grill to go in, I'm not sure of that yet though.

I also expanded the indents and coin box widths from what they were in the real cabinet. There will also be a cutout for where the coin return goes in the coin box piece but it's not on this diagram. Please be aware that I'm still trying to figure out if my real control panel can fit in the 29 1/2" space on the CP top. That means all the parts need to fit into the 27" box below it and then there's some overhang around it. We may have to widen it by another inch, but I still need to figure that out, as well as the exact placement of everything on the control panel. Also notice on the control panel top that it angles in slightly. You can see this clearly if you look at the pictures of the control panel I took.

Cabinet Back

Here's a picture of the flat part of the back. I didn't take measurements of the angled upper top back or the very top piece, but I'm assuming they're similar in height to what the sides are, and are as wide as the overall cabinet is going to be. Anyway, here we can see how the flat back part looks, w/ 4 square hand holes for air and moving the cabinet around, and the detachable panel w/ air slits in it. There's a lock on the upper middle part of the detachable pice, and on the lower middle is a notch cut out for the power cord to run through. I'd like to point out that I didn't actually measure each individual back piece here, I just guessed from the pictures I took on the heights of these. The overall height of this is 55" though, I did measure that. Width will obviously be dependent on the overall width as described above.

I hope that's enough to get you started. I'm not sure how much I would actually cut out yet, though I think the sides of the cabinet are probably a good bet to stay close to where they are. If you could look through this and find any errors, and try to fill in the missing pieces that'd be great. I can also go back to try and measure the cabinet some more if need be. I know I am also missing any bottom piece that the casters and everything else attaches to. I'm hoping we can extrapolate the width of that based on what we know here. I think we can probably do the same w/ how to mount the monitor, since we have the measurements for that as well (in the last email you printed out last week). I'm hoping that by looking at all of this you can get a good idea of the cabinet and visualize it and feel more confident in building it moving forward. If that's not the case then let me know! Hopefully we can get this thing built and it will look great! :)
